As a twelve-year-old boy at the turn of the millennium, Quinn Abercromby saw his mother and her construction crew slaughtered by something too vast and horrible to comprehend- a dragon, waked from aeons of slumber. Quinn was the only survivor on the site, and the first to see the dragon.

He would not be the last. Over the course of days, weeks, months, the dragons multiplied and spread- nearly unkillable, so fast-multiplying they put cockroaches to shame. And where the dragons waxed, humans (and the rest of the planet's lifeforms) waned, as the beasts fed on the ashes of all they'd scorched. By the time Quinn reached adulthood, humanity was reduced to handfuls of survivors huddling in such remote places as they could manage to eke out. Twenty years later, at the age of thirty-two, Quinn bears much of the primary responsibility for keeping his little cluster of survivors alive and safe from the terrors in the sky.
